After Local Anesthesia

  • Be very careful while eating, as to not bite your lip, cheek or tongue.  Please watch children and elderly very closely to make sure they are not chewing on the numb area.  Local anesthetic can last for several hours.
  • Take your typcal headache medicine, if you tend to get sore after injections.

Restorations (Fillings)

  • We use light cured composite resin for basic restorations.  They are completely cured at the time of the appointment and therefore safe to eat on.
  • If your gums are sore, use warm salt water rinses a few times per day.
  • It's normal to have some temperature sensitivity after a filling.  It should subside in 2-6 weeks, depending on the size of the cavity.  Please call if it worsens.
  • If anything feels funny when the numbness wears off, please call our office and schedule a follow up appointment.

Crown & Bridge

Preparation and Temporary Crowns-

  • If your gums are sore, use warm salt water rinses a few times per day.
  • It's normal to have some temperature sensitivity.  It should subside in a few days.  If necessary, use your typical headache medicine.  Please call if it worsens.

  • Please avoid extremely hot or sticky food for the first 24 hours after cementation of your definative crown, bridge or veneer.

Dentures

  • You may experience some discomfort with any new denture for a few days.  Most new dentures need adjustments to comfortably fit your mouth.
  • Diet- start with softer foods and practice with chewing to find a comfortable new pattern.
  • Speaking- It may be challenging to speak normally with the new denture for a few days.  Practice by reading out loud, this will help you adapt to the new denture.
  • Cleaning- You should take the denture out every night, brush them inside & out, and keep them in a container containing cleaning solution.
  • Clean your gums with a washcloth.  Also, they need to rest and to be without the dentures for a period of time daily.
  • Never put your denture in a paper towel/napkin. They get thrown away too easily this way.  Keep Away From Pets!
  • Clean dentures thoroughly with brush and water before putting in your mouth. (Fill sinks with water or cover with a towel to protect against breaking if dropped).
  • Please schedule an anual oral cancer screening and denture evaluation.
